A Mathematical Program for Scheduling Preventive Maintenance of Cogeneration Plants with Production

This paper considers the scheduling of preventive maintenance for boilers, turbines, and distillers power plants that produce electricity desalinated water. It models problem as a mathematical program (MP) maximizes sum minimal ratios production to demand water during planning time horizon. objective encourages plants’ enhances chances meeting consumers’ needs. reduces chance cuts shortages may be caused by emergency disruptions equipment on network. To assess its performance effectiveness, we test MP real system consisting 32 units generate schedule horizon 52 weeks (one year). The generated outperforms established experts plant; it induces, respectively, 16% 12% increases in surpluses while either matching or surpassing total production. sensitivity analysis further indicates can handle unforeseen longer periods well 120% increase demand—a sizable realization country heavily relies acclimate harsh weather conditions. In addition, suggests robustness schedules with respect increased demand. summary, model yields optimal systematic sustainable schedules.
